WOW!  Great performances by the CHSO in NYC April 18 resulted in two first place trophies, two superior ratings, and three soloist trophies!  Congratulations to concertmaster Laura Schwartz, principal violist Emily Cantrell, and principal cellist Clare Plunkett for their individual recognition.  And a resounding congratulations to all members of the CHSO for representing Charlottesville in such an exemplary manner!  Photos will be posted on this site soon.

-Congrats to our 8 CHSO members who performed in the All-Virginia Orchestra last weekend at Harrisonburg High School!   Violinists Laura Schwartz, Patrick Costanzo, Patrick Crider, Julia Nakamoto, and Clara Coward, violists Deborah Gayman and Emily Cantrell, and bassist Ted Lichtenberger represented us beautifully! : )

-Wow!! Congratulations to both Charlottesville High School Orchestras for earning a "I," or "Superior" rating for their performances at the District 13 Orchestra Festival on Saturday morning, March 15 at Buford! The CHS String Ensemble earned straight superior ratings, as well as straight "A's" in each of the 26 subcategories in the most difficult level of music, grade 6. The CHS Concert Orchestra earned a superior rating in grade 5 music.

Festival Adjudicator Lisa Maynard, professor of music at James Madison University, wrote "An outstanding, exciting, and highly musical performance! Excellent rhythmic precision....beautiful string artistry and fluency....Bravo!" Judge Douglas Kellner, Midlothian High School Orchestra Director, wrote "...the intellect of the group is in full display...congratulations!" and "Always a pleasure to hear the artistry from CHS." Adjudicator David Yohe, who gave the CHS String Ensemble straight A+'s in each of the seven subcategories for stage performance, wrote, "The entrance into Vaughan Williams was beyond perfect!" and "(the musical effect was) unbelievable...so wonderful.... slow is hard and you made it look easy! So great, loved it all!!"

The top CHS Orchestra has earned straight superior ratings at the highest level of difficulty in each District Festival appearance since 1987. Great going, guys! : ) Next stop--NYC!
